Dilla Ghost Doom

Like Tupac's stuff, new Dilla tracks are still going to be emerging 10 years from now. These just surfaced on nahright and they're worth spreading. They're apparently from the Dilla-Doom collab that never emerged. I'm particularly feeling Murder Goons by Ghostface, the beat is intense and Ghostface wrecks it.

Ghostface Killah - Murder Goons

Mixtape Monday - Classickness, Vol. 1

Classickness is a hip hop education. It's hosted by Dres from Black Sheep, which immediately suggests that this isn't just another throw away mixtape. It's hand-crafted, High Fidelity style, Trackstar the DJ did a good job blending the songs. The tape is loaded with highlights from before the millenium. This is the sort of tape where you can check out some of the legends you haven't had the opportunity to hear yet.
For me, the highlights are:
Black Moon - Buck Em Down
Outkast - Jazzy Belle
Xzibit - 3 Card Molly (ft. Ras Kass, Saafir)
Big Pun - Deep Cover (ft. Fat Joe)
Rampage - Wild for the Night

As a bonus, you can get the mixtape of Jay-Z's Glastonbury performance if you want to re-live those golden memories of watching it on youtube.

GZA - Protools

Ooooh. Due out August 19th.

Also, he disses 50 Cent on the track Paper Plate. No need for GZA to swear, even on a diss track.

"No matter what, you still window shop for lyrics"

"Whipped with Cuban Linx
Cut with Liquid Swords
Choked by Iron Man till we crush your vocal chords"

Elucid Interview

I think my RZA/Busta craze has given way to Elucid. If you haven't downloaded his Smash & Grab mixtape yet, you're missing out on something pretty special. Starstruck which I posted earlier is a great track. Also, rockthedub.com has an interview with him so you can learn more about the beast that is Elucid.

I love this quote from the interview:
khal: First off, can you give us a bit of background on how you got into rhyming and what brought you to the point where you are today?

Elucid: 1996. I was a pimple faced 15 year old backpacker watching Rap City. Biggie's “One More Chance” video came on and I watched with disgust. The song ended and I marched upstairs to write my first rap. I thought I could do better.

Free download - Weareallgoingtoburninhellmegamixx2

El-P is about as popular as you can get while still being firmly underground. He's like the Sonic Youth of hip hop. He was part of the mighty Company Flow and has since done a bunch of other stuff including founding the Def Jux label.

Wikipedia says:
El-P is a great fan of science fiction, notably writer Philip K. Dick, and many of Dick's themes, such as paranoia and questions about the nature of reality, feature in El-P's work. References to George Orwell, Arthur C. Clarke, and Star Trek spin-off Deep Space 9 sit comfortably alongside more traditional rap references, such as to the likes of LL Cool J and Boogie Down Productions.

As a producer, Meline is notable for his innovative mix of bleak futurism and low fidelity sounds. His dense, claustrophobic sounds are strongly influenced by Public Enemy's production team, The Bomb Squad, as well as innovators like Art of Noise and Nine Inch Nails.
And who can argue with the all-knowing wikipedia?

Anyway, the reason for this post is that I just downloaded his Weareallgoingtoburninhellmegamixx2 which he released for free download the other day. Check it out.

Roth Boys in the House Tonight

As is pretty much inevitable for an up-and-coming white rapper, Asher Roth is being hailed as the next Eminem. I don't know about that, his style is pretty different and there's no 8 Mile, rags-to-riches story behind him. He's a whiteboy from the suburbs of Pennsylvania who just released The Greenhouse Effect mixtape, the video below is from the first song Roth Boys. Check out this interview with him from illroots.com

Elucid - Would Be Killer

Elucid gets menacing on this week's Warning Shot Wednesday song. It's over a Gnarls Barkley track.

Meth comes off sounding more sensible and far more humble than I expected.

Glastonbury take 2

This video is of Jay-Z's full set. The one I posted yesterday is only 8 minutes long.
